Anne Burrell

Anne W. Burrell was TV personality and former chef in the Institute of Culinary Education and formerly teaches cooking. Burrell hosts Food Network's Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, and is also the host of Worst Cooks in America. With her trademark spiky blond hair and pumped-up personality Anne Burrell eliminates the intimidation of restaurant dishes and reveals simple, easy-to-learn techniques for the at-home cook in her Food Network series Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. Chef Burrell has also worked at several of the most prestigious eateries in New York, studied the food culture and culinary traditions of Italy and competed on Food Network's Iron Chef America. While growing up in the upper reaches of New York area, Chef Burrell found a passion for cooking and food from a young age. Following her graduation with an English and Communication degree in Canisius College in Buffalo NY she was able to pursue her love of the industry of restaurants by registering at The Culinary Institute of America. She states "I loved being a Culinary Institute of American student. I was awed by every moment." I didn't have enough knowledge, couldn't accomplish enough, and I couldn't put in the effort enough. Following her graduation, Chef Burrell went on to spend one year in Italy attending an Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners as well as working for La Taverna del Lupo in Umbria and La Bottega del 30 a one-Michelin star restaurant in Tuscany. During her time in Italy she came to appreciate and understand the philosophies behind Italian cuisine and culture which left a lasting impact in her viewpoint. Burrell was an Garden of Dreams Foundation Advisory Board members, which strives to enhance the quality of life for kids who are facing difficulties. Burrell also serves as a Juvenile Disease Research Foundation (JDRF) celebrity ambassador and advocates awareness of children's diabetes. She talks about her culinary passion, and also shares her knowledge of the culinary world as she frequently is in the United States for the roles of mentors and speakers. Anne always felt fortunate that she could share the passion of cooking with others.
