Patricia Velásquez
Creativity goes beyond canvas, photos
and film. It also catalyzes charity social action, philanthropy, as well as
activism. Award-winning model, actress, and history-making supermodel, a
fervent philanthropist, a conscientious activist as well as a writer and mother
of two. Patricia Velasquez applies an eternal creativity to everything she
does-whether it be starring in blockbuster movies like The Curse of La Llorona
or launching the Wayuu Taya Foundation and participating in the UNESCO Board.
She is a strong believer in intuition , and a pioneer in her own direction.
"I view my career like a long staircase," she said. "I have been
through every step. It was remarkable to do that, as there's been a lot of
longevity. I was never able to stop moving, I just kept my head in the air. The
imagery is directly similar to a formative experience. After a short time, she
moved to Venezuela. She was born in Venezuela and grew up in France and Mexico.
In South America her parents worked in education. They moved their family to an
apartment complex without water and no elevators. Patricia carried fifteen
staircases up using heavy buckets to provide water to the unit. Between
engineering studies and intense dance classes, she endeavored to help the
family in any way that was possible. In the process of being scouted to model
in Milan, the multi talented model's rise to the top of the fashion world was
contingent on a promise to those she loved. She recalls saying, "When they
asked me about going to Italy, my answer was"If you could send thirty
bucks a month back home to Venezuela, it will be worth it, since that will
cover the entire cost of water for the building's construction'."
Patricia's success was a major event in fashion in that she gained attention
for South America for first time. She experienced a big break after becoming
"the first model Karl Lagerfeld ever photographed" and was then able
to walk at shows, take part in editorial spreads, as well as advertisements for
front pages of Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Chloe, Cover Girl, and
Victoria's Secret, to name some. Her appearances on Oprah's Supermodel of the
World contest as well as Ford Models’ "Supermodel of the World"
contest were a hit all over the world. She also appeared on the front covers of
Marie Claire, Bazaar and Vogue.
